Our Mission

Strengthening the natural bond between humans and animals with programs and services to enhance the well-being of all.

AnimalKind, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) animal welfare organization, was founded in 2000 by Katrin Hecker, a registered nurse who was determined to end the plight of stray cats and kittens that were overrunning the streets and alleys of Hudson.

Today AnimalKind is a nurturing community force. Every year, AnimalKind is serving our communities with supportive programs and saving over 5000 animals in need to reduce suffering and euthanasia.

  • Serving our communities: We are a critical safety net helping economically stressed and low-income pet owners keep their beloved pets. We have an innovative approach to provide emergency services for pet owners in need, whether in domestic violence cases, foreclosures, evictions, or fires.

  • Saving animal lives: Every year, we rescue over 1200 animals, place over 1000 in loving homes, and provide over 2000 spay/neuter surgeries. AnimalKind is committed to improving the lives of cats and kittens and humanely reducing the overpopulation of unwanted animals.

Ultimately, our dedicated efforts are making our communities a kinder, safer, and healthier place to live for all.
